Description
The Queensport Lighthouse sits on Rock Island at the entrance to Queensport Harbour in Chedabucto Bay.. The first lighthouse on the site was built in 1882 and was a square white wooden building with a red lantern on the roof. The current building, also wooden, was completed in 1937.

The Department of Transportation announced that it intended to dismantle the lighthouse in 1991. As happens in many communities faced the loss of a local
landmark, efforts were started to save and restore the lighthouse. The Municipality of Guysborough restored the exterior of the building. The site is now managed by the Keepers of the Beacon, a local group. The lighthouse is still listed on the Nova Scotia Lighthouse Preservation Society Doomsday list (although that list has not been updated since 2000 on the NSLPS web site.)

The lighthouse grounds are only accessible by boat. However, you can view the lighthouse from a couple of look-offs on highway 16 between Guysborough and Canso in southeast Nova Scotia.
