Description
Graves Light is located on Graves Ledge, which is located near the mouth of Boston Harbor and is named after Thomas Graves, a famous colonial merchant. The ledge is not named "Graves Ledge" because many seamen lost their lives near the spot, as is commonly believed. Although the light looks very old, it was only built in 1905. However, it was never a popular assignment for keepers and was automated in 1976. The original first-order Fresnel lens has been replaced with a plastic optic. Its light is visible from 25 miles away.

An great location to spot this lighthouse from is the Observation Deck of the Prudential Tower in Boston. You don't get a detailed look but you see it in relation to Boston Light and the Boston Harbor Islands.
