Description
Rock Island lighthouse is located in the Thousand Islands region of the St Lawrence River. The first light was established there in 1848 and was fitted with a 6th order Fresnel lens in 1855. A new tower was built in 1882, which was raised by five feet in 1894. The brick base was built out into the river with the present 50 steel tower erected on it in 1903. The lighthouse and island are now part of a New York state park.
There are views of the Rock Island light from various points along Reed Point Road in Fisher's Landing or from Fineview on Wellesley Island. The best views are from the island or from a boat.
