Description
Shipping going through San Francisco Bay headed for the Sacramento or San Joaquin Rivers must pass Sand Pablo Point. The East Brother Island lighthouse was built when a court battle ensued over the government's acquisition on San Pablo Point. East Brother Island and it's partner, West Brother Island, are just off San Pablo Point. The Victorian style lighthouse was built in 1874 and originally exhibited a light from a 4th order Fresnel lens.
The light is now a B&B (make reservations WELL in advance if you want to stay there and be forewarned that staying overnight isn't cheap!) and is also open to day visitors.
