Description
A lighthouse was first built atop what is now known as Chebucto Head in 1872 as a 12-sided wooden tower to guide vessels into Halifax Harbor. The light stands atop what is essentially a cliff approximately 105 above the sea. The present, reinforced octagonal white concrete tower with a red lantern room was built in 1967. The open ocean is seen to the south. The eastern passage and a view of Devil's Island are seen to the east, while the mouth of Halifax harbor is seen to the left as one faces the Atlantic.
The views shown were taken on two separate occasions from the upper decks of the MV Carnival Victory while entering or leaving Halifax.
