Description
Thirty Mile Point Lighthouse is located 30 miles east of the mouth of the Niagara River about 3 miles east of the town of Somerset, NY. The beautiful stone lighthouse was built in 1876, probably in response to several ships going down off the point, the most notable the HMS Ontario, which sank with a loss of 88 lives.
The lighthouse stands in what is now Golden Hill State Park and can be reached by going north toward Lake Ontario from NY 18 on Carmen Road and then turning right onto Lower Lake Road.
