Description
The Alpena Lighthouse was built in 1875 to guide mariners into the port of Alpena. The original lighthouse burned down during a fire and was replaced by another wooden structure that was replaced in 1914 by the current steel tower. The Fresnel lens originally housed in the lighthouse was replaced ca 1987 by a modern optic.
Alpena is the site of the annual Great Lakes Lighthouse Festival held in October every year.
