Description
The light at Cape Froward is one of the numerous Chilean lights along the shores of the Straits of Magellan. Cape Froward is the southernmost point of land on the continent of South America. Ushuaia, Argentina and Puerto Williams, Chile are located in Tierra del Fuego, which is separated from the continent by the Strait of Magellan.
Normally, cruise ships sail past Cape Froward at twilight or later on their way from Punta Arenas, Chile when headed toward the Pacific or in the pre-dawn for ships headed the other direction. Our timing when we passed this light was atypical because of our very late sailing from Ushuaia the night before.
Cape Froward is also quite interesting in that the Cross of the Seas stands atop the headland above the Cape Froward channel light. Several photos are attached that also show the Cross of the Seas.
