Description
The DeTour Reef Light stands on a reef at the moth of the St Marys River in 24 feet of water. The tower rises 63 feet from the top of the caisson, which itself stands 20 feet above the water. The light marks the entrance to the St Marys River and nearly 5,000 ships/year pass this light.
The keeper's quarters are a 30x30 foot square two story structure atop the caisson, with the tower rising from the center of the keeper's quarters.
The lighthouse is now owned by the DeTour Reef Lighthouse Preservation Society, which was formed in 1998. Major renovations of the light were completed in 2004 and tours are offered by the society allowing the public to visit this historic light.
