Description
Windmill Point was originally named because this was a windmill when it was built in the 1820's. The lighthouse stands on what is now a Canadian Historical Site -- The Battle for the Windmill, which took place in 1838. The windmill was converted to a lighthouse in 1872 and served as one until 1978.
The lighthouse is of conical stone construction with a red lantern room.
I was fortunate to be able to see this light both from land as well as from the St Lawrence River on a recent trip.
