Description
Grosse Point Light is open to the public on a limited basis during the summer. We are open Saturdays and Sundays (afternoons) from June through September (closed July 4 and Labor Day weekends) weather permitting. Maximum of 14 guests at a time, tours at 2, 3, and 4 pm. I'm a part time tour guide at the Light, and seldom do we have a full house! The small park around the Light is open year round.
Would you recommend the lighthouse? Yes |
Rating: 8
Pros:
Visitors can climb the tower and stand next to the original 2nd order Fruenel lens
Cons:
Very small museum, and 141 steps is a lot for some people.
Open for tours on weekend afternoons June thru September (not Labor Day or July 4 weekends). Tours at 2, 3, 4 pm but not during storms or if air temp is above 90 degrees. Small museum, 15 minute video program, and then you can climb the stairs and stand beside the 2nd order lens (as big as they get on the Great Lakes!) Visitors must be 8 years old or older. The view from the top is spectacular, looking out over the sailboats on Lake Michigan.
The Light is immediately north of the Northwestern University campus on the lake shore, in Evanston.
