DescriptionOld Orchard Shoal lighthouse was built in 1893 to mark the location of a dangerous shoal off the south shore of Staten Island. The lighthouse, which was automated in 1955, can be seen from the beach at Great Kills Park near Gateway National Recreation Area on Staten Island. The lighthouse is located about 3 miles to the southeast and is best seen from shore with binoculars. The lighthouse was excessed by the USCG in 2007 and sold by the GSA for $235K in 2008 when no suitable owner could be found for the lighthouse.
