DescriptionThe Outer Island lighthouse was built in 1874 by Poe. The lighthouse at Wind Point is similar but smaller. The light station consisted of the lighthouse connected to the keeper's residence, and oil house and fog signal building. The bluff collapsed on the original fog signal building built down near the water. A replacement was built for the following shipping season. The lighthouse is now a part of the Apostle Islands National Lake Shore. Funds were approved in 2000 to stabilize the eroding shore of both Outer Island and Raspberry Island.
The lighthouse can be seen from trips offered by the Apostle Island Cruise Service. The annual Lighthouse Festival in September provides an opportunity to visit the island and lighthouse.
