DescriptionSodus has a large natural bay that has been important to the area since the early 1800's. The first lighthouse was built at Sodus in 1825. A new tower was built in 1871. The present tower, with a focal plane of 51 feet, was built in 1938.
The lighthouse now serves as a museum; a maritime research library is housed on the second floor of the lighthouse. The tower and lantern room are open to visitors. The photograph looking up into the lantern room of the the Fresnel lens was shot using a fisheye lens.
