DescriptionThe Cape Blanco lighthouse stands atop a cape the juts about 1.5 miles out into the Pacific Ocean. Cape Blanco is the southernmost of the Oregon lighthouses. The light was built in 1870 by landing supplies on the coast and hauling the up to the construction site atop the 200 foot bluff. The site has a commanding view of the Pacific Ocean and the lighthouse is now located in Cape Blanco State Park. The light was automated in 1980. A Fresnel lens is still located in the lantern room but is a smaller lens than that originally installed when the lighthouse was put into service.
The lighthouse is roughly 4.5 miles north of Port Orford off US 101. The grounds near the lighthouse are open when the lighthouse is open for tours from April through October.
