DescriptionA day mark has stood on the island of Ledskar since 1746. The Strait of Ledskar at the southern point of Åland has been the gateway to Åland for centuries. The red log beacon on the island was destroyed during the war of 1808-09. The next beacon collapsed in 1845. The base of the present stone tower was built in 1848 and stood about 17 feet tall. The height was raised in 1861 to the present 31 feet. The tower has red and white vertical stripes. The range marker is seen to the right of the stone tower.
