DescriptionThe Yerba Buena Island Lighthouse was established in 1875 to aid ships navigating in San Francisco Bay. Despite the lights on the Oakland Bay Bridge, the lighthouse remains active to this day and retains its original 1875 5th order Fresnel lens. The lighthouse consists of a white masonry tower and a cast iron lantern room. The keeper's residence is now the home to the USCG District Commander.
The lighthouse stands on USCG property and is not open to visitors but good views of the lighthouse can be had from the San Francisco Alameda/Oakland ferry.
