DescriptionThe first light was established on the Hudson River at Stony Point. The lighthouse is a 30 foot octagonal stone tower with a commanding view of the Hudson Valley. A 5th order Fresnel lens was installed in 1856 and replaced by a 4th order lens in 1902. The light in the Stony Point tower was extinguished in 1925 when a skeletal tower closer to the river replaced it until 1973.
Through the efforts of the Stony Point Battlefield State Historic Site, the Palisades Park Interstate Comm., and the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic preservation a restoration of the Stony Point light began in 1986 that was completed in 1995 by the relighting of the 4th order Fresnel lens in the lantern room.
