Pomham Rocks Lighthouse stands atop a large rock in the river near Providence. The lighthouse is about a mile off shore, which made trips back and forth to the lighthouse arduous for the keeper in the winter unless the ice on the river was thick enough to walk across.

The lighthouse was built in 1871 and didn't get electricity until the 1950's. The lighthouse was deactivated from 1974-2006 and has been owned by Exxon-Mobil since 1980 but is leased to the American Lighthouse Fundation ($0). The lighthouse has been restored and is only accessible by boat.
