DescriptionThe light at Punta Curamilla was established in 1893 on a prominent cape projecting into the Pacific Ocean about 15 mi SW of the city of Valpariso. The lighthouse itself is a squat structure only 13' tall but provides a commanding view with a focal plane 276' feet above the waters of the Pacific Ocean. The keeper's residence at the site is unmanned at present.
When our vessel was sailing into Valpariso, it was still dark and too far from shore to see the light other than it's white flash.
Visitors can approach quite close to the site but the tower is not open to visitors. A photo of the light is on line at the following address:
