Description
Located on the Delaware River near Philadephia, Tinicum Rear Range Light is the last remaining light of three that formed a triangulated range and is still functional. It has a skeletal structure made of iron. When first built, it had a Fourth Order Fresnel lens and there was a farmhouse next to it. Today, the light is automated and surrounded by baseball fields.

Pros: A skeletal structure open to climbing; great views from the top
Cons: None

Tinicum is a rarity in that it is one of a few skeletal lights that is open to climbing. The light is surrounded by baseball fields, and there is an amazing view of Philadelphia and the PHL International Airport from the top. The only possible downside to this great light is that some of the stairways are *very* tight, although this was not a problem for me.

Pros: An interesting skeletal tower in a picture perfect setting
Cons: Tight spaces, dangerous stairway

As far as skeletal lights go, this is definitely my favorite so far. There is a great view of Philadelphia from across the river, where you can see the airport. Train tracks can also be seen from the top.

Helpful hint- If you drive out to this light, get gas in Paulsboro- it's a lot cheaper than most places!
