DescriptionThe Ile Parisienne Lighthouse stands on the southwest corner of an island in Lake Superior. The lighthouse is the check in point for commercial vessels that are downbound from Lake Superior under Soo Control.
The light station was built in 1912 and consists of two buildings, a boat house, and the 48 foot tall hexagonal concrete tower. The tower is topped with a 10 sided lantern room now equipped with a modern optic.
This particular lighthouse is relatively unique in that it has a beaver wind vane atop the lantern room. It is one of only two in Canada so equipped -- the other is at Belle Isle North in Newfoundland.
