DescriptionThe Round Island Lighthouse stands on a small spit of land in the Mackinac Straits. The 53 foot tower was built in 1895.
The lighthouse was deactivated from 1947-1996 and, for a time, was in danger of being lost but has since been completely restored and now serves as a private aid to navigation.
The lighthouse can only be seen from the water. Shepler's lighthouse cruises carry visitors past this light, which was prominently seen in the movie "Somewhere in Time."
The third photo posted is shot looking west toward the Mackinac Bridge between Michigan's lower Michigan and the upper peninsula.
