DescriptionThe Ile Aux Galets Light or Skillagalee Lighthouse, as it is now more commonly known, stands on a small wave swept island in Lake Michigan. A lighthouse was first established here in 1850 with the present tower built in 1888.
The lighthouse was automated in 1969 at which point the keeper's dwelling and all of the other buildings on the island other than the lighthouse were demolished.
The light originally had a 4th order Fresnel lens which has since been replaced by a modern, 300 mm optic.
In the 3rd photos posted, you can see from left to right, Ile Aux Galets, Gray's Reef, and White Shoal. The vessel northbound is the 1000 footer Burns Harbor.
